Nathan Abbe
Director of Workshop
Violin Maker & Repair/Restorer
Nathan is a graduate of the North Bennet Street School Violin making and Repair Program, where he was awarded the Certificate for Excellence in Craftsmanship for his work. He also received the merit-based Gladys Brooks Foundation Scholarship, which recognizes a student’s educational achievements, technical mastery, and potential for leadership in their field. Upon graduating in 2020, he served as the program’s Teaching Assistant.
His work is highly influenced by his previous pursuits in art and architecture. Nathan earned a bachelor's degree in architecture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and took a keen interest in the study of mathematical surfaces and digital fabrication. He then worked as a moldmaker, sculpture fabricator, and art handler, first for contemporary artist Daniel Arsham and later for Polich Tallix fine art foundry.
The skills he developed in structure, fabrication, and artistry lead to a discovered passion for musical instruments and what allows them to perform as an object, a tool, and a musician’s companion.
