What are Ipe Bows?

Pernambuco wood, traditionally used for high-quality string instrument bows, is endangered due to overharvesting, prompting bow makers to turn to Ipe wood as an alternative. Ipe, also known as “Brazilian Walnut,” is native to Central and South America and is prized for its durability, strength, and resistance to environmental elements. While slightly heavier than Pernambuco, Ipe's similar density and flexibility allow it to produce comparable sound quality and playability in bows, making it a sustainable and effective substitute in the world of bow making craftsmanship. The following are some of our Ipe wood bows, we highly encourage and welcome you to try these bows in our showroom!
